LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern took advantage of playing a man up to get the equalizing goal in the 72nd minute to earn a 1-1 tie with No. 12 Georgia Gwinnett.
Victor Cavalcante's strike to the far post with 18:37 remaining was his second goal of the season and gave the Fire the draw.
Georgia Gwinnett (2-1-2) scored in the sixth minute of play when Antoine Ferez scored his first goal of the season during a corner kick. Southeastern finished the half with a 6-5 advantage in shots, but the key play came in the 43
rd minute when the Grizzlies went a man down due to a red card.
Southeastern (2-0-1) took all seven shots in the second half of the game, generating three on goal. The game was stopped in the 74
th minute due to a light failure.
The Fire will begin Sun Conference play next Wednesday at home against Ave Maria at 7 p.m.
