MONTGOMERY, Ala.—Fresh off their bye week, Southeastern will take on Faulkner Saturday afternoon at Billy D. Hillyer Stadium for its third game of the season.
The Fire were idle last week after rallying from 17 points down in the second quarter to win at No. 10 Reinhardt 23-20 back on September 9
th. It marked the second Top 10 win in program history, both coming on the road.
Ja'Kobe Clinton earned national recognition for his play on defense, returning an interception for a touchdown and recovering a fumble to set up a field goal in the third quarter. His 10 total tackles this season has him in a tie for second on the team.
On offense,
Devonte Bowie has been the top receiver with nine catches for 68 yards which includes the go-ahead touchdown in the game at Reinhardt. The Fire average 273.5 yards per contest on offense through two games.
Faulkner will be in search of its first win of the season in its home opener following a 36-3 loss at Reinhardt and a 24-20 loss in a back-and-forth game at Pikeville last week. A 26-yard touchdown pass by the Eagles tied the game at 17 going into halftime but the Eagles were unable to come up with a second score during the second half. Eight penalties and four sacks allowed hurt the Eagles on the road as well.
Quarterback Nehemiah Broussard has thrown for 229 yards and a pair of touchdowns in two games this season with his top target Daimon Hitchcock with 62 yards on five catches.
This will be the eighth meeting all time between the Fire and the Eagles. The matchup holds a special historical note with the first meeting coming on September 6
th, 2014 marking the first football game in SEU history.
Faulkner won the first two matchups in the series with the Fire winning the next four. The most recent meeting went to the Eagles in 2021 by the score of 31-14.
