AVE MARIA, Fla.—An off balance shot from 25 yards out found the back of the net with just 14 seconds left in the game to give Southeastern its first win of the season.
Naira Lopez collected a perfectly placed pass from
Viktoria Lederer and sent it just over the keeper to give the Fire a 1-0 win at Ave Maria Wednesday night.
Chances were few after the teams waited almost 100 minutes to take the field due to lightning in the area. The Fire totaled just six shots on goal to Ave Maria's five.
The Fire came out of the intermission strong with three shots in the first five minutes including one off the post.
Ave Maria (2-1-1) had its best look in the 71
st minute from a corner kick when a shot hit the crossbar.
Micaela Owen made five saves to pick up her first shutout of the season.
Southeastern will host No. 5 Keiser on Saturday at 1 p.m. for its home opener.
