LAKELAND, Fla.- After opening their season last week against two NAIA Top 10 programs, No. 11 Southeastern University women's soccer will open Sun Conference play this week with a road contest on Wednesday against Ave Maria University and their home opener coming on Saturday against No. 5 Keiser University.
Through their first two contests, the Fire were outscored 8-2 with an average of 11 shots per contest. The two goals of the season belong to
Madelyn Davidson and
Viktoria Lederer with
Naira Lopez and
Evelina Von Euler each recording an assist.
In goal,
Micaela Owen has recorded 11 saves on 19 shots faced.
The Gyrenes of Ave Maria begin the week with a 2-0-1 record, taking wins over Florida College and Thomas University and tying Middle Georgia. Ave Maria currently averages four goals per game and has outscored their opponent 12-6 behind 23.7 shots per game. Cate Cox has recorded seven points with three goals and an assist while Madelyn Krause has tallied a team-best four assists and a goal.
The defense has held their opponents to just 11 shots per game with Emma Schweitzer recording 10 saves on 16 shots faced.
The Fire have lost to the Gyrenes just once before as they hold a 19-1 historical record. The most recent contest saw the Fire take a 5-1 win on the road last season.
The Seahawks of Keiser currently hold a 2-1-1 record with wins over No. 9 Tennessee Southern and No. 24 Reinhardt. The lone loss came this past weekend in Orange Beach to No. 3 William Carey by a score of 4-3.
Outscoring their opponents 11-5 the Seahawks average 18.5 shots and 2.75 goals per contest and have posted a .446 shot-on-goal percentage. Lauren Riley leads the offense with four goals and two assists.
Defensively, Zara Board has posted two shutouts in just four games with 12 saves and a .706 save percentage.
The Fire have dropped their last three contests against the Seahawks after being shutout in all three.
