LAKELAND, Fla. - Men's soccer opens their season this weekend with two home games.
Last season, the Fire recorded an 11-4-4 overall record and 5-2-1 Sun Conference record, with three of the four losses being to national tournament teams.Â
On Friday, they take on Point Park University. The Pioneers have a 3-0 record on the season. In the preseason polls, they were third of the 11 teams in the River States Conference. Last season, they finished with a record of 6-9-4.Â
The Pioneers return seven starters from last year. Four of those returners earned All-RSC recognition with Philipp Harder (first team), Moritz Sarfert (honorable mention), Peter Holt (honorable mention) and Eduard Garcia (honorable mention).
The Fire then take on Thomas University on Sunday. Previously a member of the Sun Conference, Thomas has a long history of matchups against the Fire. Last fall, the Night Hawks beat the fire 5-1. This season, they have been selected sixth in the Southern States Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll.
