Showdown Between Top SUN Teams Begins Thursday

LAKELAND, Fla.- Coming off a 5-0 week including their fourth consecutive Sun Conference series win, No. 17 ranked Southeastern softball will look to another SUN series this week as they host No. 24 College of Coastal Georgia for a three-game series.
 
The series will kick off on Thursday with a single contest at 4 p.m. and will conclude on Friday with a doubleheader at 12 and 2 p.m.
 
Southeastern (23-9, 11-1 SUN) currently sits tied for first in the SUN with the Mariners and holds a .299 collective batting average in conference play. Leah Gonzalez and Chapel Cunningham lead the way offensively with Gonzalez holding a .375 average in conference play with 10 RBI's and Cunningham holding a .372 average and a team-high 16 hits. Cunningham also leads the SUN in stolen bases with 20 total.
 
The Fire pitching staff has been nearly untouchable in SUN play, posting a collective 1.17 ERA. In 51.1 innings of work, Claire Sekinger holds a 1.50 ERA and 8-0 record and currently sits at second in the SUN in strikeouts with 119 on the season, 64 in conference play. Autumn Hunter has allowed just three earned runs for a 0.83 ERA and has held SUN opponents to .176 batting average while Kenzie Forrester has gone seven innings without allowing an earned run.
 
The Mariners currently hold a 14-game win streak and sit at the top of the SUN in batting average (.339), staff ERA (1.69), and fielding percentage (.973) and hold a 26-5 overall record and 11-1 SUN record. Coastal Georgia claims the top spot in nearly every SUN individual category as well with Sarah Thinger leading the SUN in batting average (.500) and hits (46) and Bryce Peacock leading in slugging percentage (.676). Anista Johnson currently sits as the conference RBI leader with 31 and home runs with six while Julianna Belflower's .579 on base percentage also sits as a conference high.
 
On the mound, Haley Dickerson leads the SUN in wins with 14 and holds a second-best ERA of 0.83 through 84.2 innings of work. Peacock has also been a threat on the mound, striking out 77 batters in 56.2 innings for an average of 9.51 strikeouts per contest.
