LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern softball will host Florida Memorial University this weekend for another Sun Conference series beginning Friday at 4 p.m. with the doubleheader coming on Saturday at 1 and 3 p.m.
The Fire will also take time on Saturday to honor their seniors for Senior Day prior to the 1 p.m. contest.
The No. 16 ranked Fire (26-12, 14-4 SUN) recently fell to second in the SUN standings after dropping the road series to Keiser University with game one and three losses.
Pitching has been the Fire's strong point for a majority of the season with the pitching staff holding a collective 1.51 ERA against SUN opponents.
Claire Sekinger sits within the top three in the SUN in multiple categories including innings pitched (132), strikeouts (137) and wins (14) while
Autumn Hunter holds a staff-best 1.15 ERA and .190 opponent batting average in SUN play.
The bat of
Erica Stahl has led the Fire through their last five contests, posting a .474 average through her last 19 at bats with two doubles, four RBI's, and an on-base percentage of .500 while her 10 doubles on the season sits tied for second in the conference.
Chapel Cunningham has posted a .400 average through her last five contests and has added six stolen bases to her conference leading total of 27.
Leah Gonzalez also sits as one of the top bats in the SUN, ranking second in RBI's (29) and third in hits (46).
On the defensive front, freshman catcher
Nicole Wasserstrom leads the conference in runners caught stealing at 11 while posting a .364 batting average against SUN opponents.
The Lions of Florida Memorial begin the week with an 11-19 overall record and sit in last place in the SUN with a 4-13 record. Coming off a 6-4 win over Thomas University in the SUN series finale, the Lions hold a collective .260 batting average led by Breanna Reyes who has posted a .426 average with a team-high 23 hits in SUN play.
The pitching staff holds a collective 5.10 ERA against SUN teams with Gabriela Pinto posting a staff-high 45.1 innings pitched and 3-1 record. Pinto holds a 5.10 ERA and has struck out 19 for an opposing batting average of .277 in SUN play.
The Fire and the Lions met three times last season with the Fire taking all three contests after outscoring the Lions 32-4.
