WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Southeastern fell just one out short of taking game one of the Sun Conference series over Keiser University, falling in walk-off fashion, 4-3, after four runs by the home team in the bottom of the seventh.
The Fire held a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh with one out. Two walks and a single up the middle by the Seahawks loaded the bases. Claire Sekinger then won a nine-pitch battle for a looking strikeout, putting the Seahawks down to their final out.
Another hard-fought at bat on both sides resulted in a bases-loaded, two-out walk to bring the score to 3-1.
Tess DeBono then singled a two-strike pitch up the middle for two RBI's, tying the contest at three.
After Kenzie Forrester replaced Sekinger with two on and two outs, the Seahawks walked it off with a single up the middle to take game one.
The Fire held a one-run lead for the majority of the contest after Erica Stahl doubled in Jamie Mead in the top of the first.
In the top of the seventh, Nicole Wasserstrom reached base on an error to lead off the inning and was advanced into scoring position with a double by Danielle Wasserstrom. Chapel Cunningham then moved the Fire lead to two with a single into center field while Mead followed with the Fire's third run in the form of an RBI groundout.
Sekinger moved to 14-3 on the season after allowing four earned runs in 6.2 innings of work.
Games two and three of the SUN series will take place tomorrow at 12 and 2 p.m.
