Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala.- In day two of the Gulf Shores Invitational, No. 4 ranked Southeastern softball went 1-1, dropping game one 2-1 to receiving votes Texas A&M-Texarkana and picking up another NAIA Top 25 win over No. 20 Campbellsville by a score of 4-2.
In the game one matchup against Texas A&M-Texarkana, the Eagles jumped out in front early with two runs in the first off three singles and a leadoff walk.
The Fire's lone run came in the top of the fifth after
Jamie Mead reached on a one-out single. A hit by pitch, walk, and error by the Eagles brought Mead across but back-to-back three-up three-down innings by the Fire offense concluded the 2-1 game one loss. Southeastern tallied four hits while the Eagles tallied seven.
Southeastern bounced back in game two of the day, taking a 4-2 victory over No. 20 ranked Campbellsville.
Riley Sanders led off the contest with an infield single and stolen base and came around to score off an RBI single into left field by
Mallory Watts.
The Fire lead was cushioned in the second after
Lauren Sekinger also led off the inning with a single and stolen base and would score on a sacrifice fly into center field by Mead. Sekinger again aided in the Fire lead after a two-run single in third put her team up 4-0.
In the fourth, back-to-back hits and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for the Tigers, setting up a sacrifice fly situation that brought the score to 4-1. A Fire error allowed the Tigers' second and final run to cross as the Fire took the 4-2 victory.
Sekinger concluded game two going 2-3 with two RBI's while Sanders went a perfect 3-3 with three stolen bases.
Autumn Hunter and
Claire Sekinger combined for the game two win with Hunter allowing six hits and two runs through 3.1 innings of work and Sekinger going 3.2 innings without allowing a hit.
The final contest of the Gulf Shores Invitational will take place tomorrow at 9 a.m. as the Fire take on No. 8 ranked Central Methodist.
