Top Two SUN Teams Face off this Weekend

LAKELAND, Fla.- An 11-game win streak has the chance to be extended this week for the No. 16 ranked Southeastern softball team as they travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. on Friday for a three-game Sun Conference series against St. Thomas University.
 
Game one will take place on Friday at 6 p.m. with a doubleheader following on Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m.
 
The Fire (16-8, 6-0 SUN) are the only current undefeated team in the SUN.
 
In conference play, the Fire have posted a .325 average and have outscored their opponents 31-7 through their first six contests. Chapel Cunningham has led the Fire offense with a commanding .565 average against SUN opponents with eight runs scored and seven stolen bases. Leah Gonzalez has been the top run producer with six RBI's while Erica Stahl has tallied seven hits, three of which have been doubles.
 
Claire Sekinger holds a perfect 4-0 record against conference opponents and sits tied for first in the SUN in strikeouts with 90 through 80.2 innings. Autumn Hunter has allowed just one earned run in 14.1 innings of work for a 0.49 ERA and has posted a 2-0 record and a save in three appearances.
 
The Bobcats of St. Thomas hold a 19-6 overall record and 4-2 SUN record after dropping one contest to Ave Maria and one to Thomas University. The pitching staff has been the largest contributor to the Bobcats' success thus far this season as they currently lead the SUN in ERA with a 1.61. Abbigail Smith currently leads the conference in ERA with a 0.41 after allowing just three earned runs in 51.2 innings of work and posting a 7-2 overall record with two saves. She also sits at the top of the SUN in opponent batting average with a .168 average.
 
Offensively, the Bobcats have seen more success in conference play, elevating their .291 non-conference average to .335 against conference opponents. Maria Lavado has hit .533 thus far in conference play while Gabriella Gilbert and Bianca Palacios both are hitting over .400. Gilbert leads the team in RBI's with six in conference play with three doubles and a home run.
