Harrell's Perfect Offensive Day Aids in SUN Opener Win

LAKELAND, Fla.- A balanced offensive effort captained by Haleigh Harrell's 4-4 day gave the No. 16 ranked Southeastern softball team their first Sun Conference win of the season after downing Webber International 8-2 in game one of the series.

The Fire strung together three consecutive two-out hits in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead after Erica Stahl led off the two-out push with a double into left center. Leah Gonzalez followed with a single up the middle scoring Stahl while Harrell then tallied her first long ball of the season, giving the Fire a three-run lead after one.

In the third, Chapel Cunningham led off the inning with a single and came around for the Fire's fourth run after a throwing error and another RBI by Harrell with an infield single.

Lauren Sekinger then added to the lead with a one-run double into left field, moving the score to 5-0.

The Warriors responded with two in the top of the fourth off three hits including an RBI double and RBI single.

Karah Schultz picked up her first RBI of the season in the fifth with a sacrifice fly to center field that scored pinch runner Madi McDaniel.

Two more Fire runs came in the following frame after Mallory Watts led off the inning with a hit by pitch, advanced two bases on a wild pitch and sacrifice bunt and scored on an infield single by Erica Stahl. Another two-out error by the Warriors opened the door for Harrell's fourth RBI of the contest, a single through the left side that scored Stahl.

Cunningham, Stahl, and Gonzalez all tallied multiple hits.

Claire Sekinger advanced to 4-2 on the season after going 5.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs on five hits and striking out nine.

Autumn Hunter earned a save after going 1.2 innings and allowing no hits.

Southeastern will look for their first SUN series win of the season tomorrow as they take on the Warriors at 1 and 3 p.m.
