LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern women's tennis advanced to 2-2 on the season after winning their first Sun Conference match of the season, shutting out Warner University.
Doubles pairs
Micah Sypert and
Simone Simas and
Martina Picardi and
Priscila Baptista gave their team the 1-0 edge after securing the doubles point by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
Irene Lopez and
Beatrice Letizia also earned a victory at line three doubles with a score of 7-5.
Sypert secured the first singles point of the match at line two after downing her opponent 6-1 and 6-0 to put the Fire ahead 2-0. The next singles victory would come from Baptista at line six by the same scores.
Lopez took the victory at line four with 6-0 and 6-2 scores, moving the lead to 4-0.
At line five,
Abigail Damon took 6-0 and 6-3 victories while Picardi earned a win at the top line with 7-5 and 6-0 scores.
Neleah Neiberline would need extra sets to secure the Fire shutout after taking set one 6-4 and dropping set two 6-2. The third set would result in a Fire victory at line three after Neiberline edged out her competitor with a 10-6 win.
No. 12 ranked Fire women will next head to Georgia Gwinnett College this weekend as they take on three NAIA Top 25 ranked opponents in four days.
