Fire Handle Sun Conference Business over the Warriors

BABSON PARK, Fla. - The Southeastern Men's Basketball team defeat their Sun Conference opponent, Webber International 68-59 to improve to 13-12 on the season and 9-4 in Sun Conference play. 

 

To start this contest, the Warriors got off to a great start as they were able to lead by ten in the first ten minutes. The Fire trailing 19-9 answered by putting together a 12-2 run in three minutes to tie the game at 21-21 with 7:12 remaining in the half. Southeastern forced three turnovers during that run and created an opportunity for fast break points. The Fire would eventually gain the lead and after a made three-pointer from Jalan Mull from Riley Minix. The Warriors would respond with eight unanswered to regain the lead and eventually head into the half leading 34-32. 

 

At the half, Southeastern shot 38.9% from the field, 21.4 from behind the arc, and 100% from the free throw line. 

 

Coming out the half, the Fire looked to start fast as they converted on offense within their first possession to tie the game with a good jumper from Mull. Both teams continued to trade baskets as neither team could gain a comfortable lead. Within the first ten minutes, the biggest lead was four points. With the game tied at 47-47 with 9:30 remaining, the Fire got in rhythm defensively to put together a 6-0 run, taking the biggest lead of the half by getting three defensive stops. With the Fire having a four point lead down the stretch, Mull hit a dagger three-pointer to give the Fire a seven point lead with 1:30 remaining. SEU would continue to withstand the Warrior comeback attempt to take the victory at the end of regulation. 

 

Southeastern improved their offensive performance and shot 44.8% from the field, 23.8% from three-point land, and remained perfect (11-11) from the free throw line. 

 

Minix led the game with a double-double with both 25 points and 16 rebounds. Mull was the team's second leading scorer with 19 and added six rebounds. Reggie Messidor wasn't far behind with 17 points. 

 

The Southeastern Fire return to action next Thursday, February 9th to host St. Thomas.
