Women's Basketball Falls Short in SUN Final

The Southeastern University women's basketball team were this year's runner-up for the Sun Conference Championship after suffering a defeat from Florida Memorial 98-85.

The Fire found themselves in trouble early as the Lions leaped out in front to take a 12-2 lead within the first six minutes. The Fire would give their best efforts in cutting the deficit but it seemingly seemed that FMU had all of the momentum and had everything going. FMU led 50-28 at the half.

Southeastern shot 26.6% from the field at the half, 27.2% from the three-point line, and 81.8% from the free throw line.

Coming out of the half, the Fire immediately cut the deficit by five with two back-to-back steals followed by a layup from Josselin Geer and a three-pointer from Gabby Suarez. Quickly, Florida Memorial responded, going on a run of their own and increased their lead to as much as 27 with 3:58 remaining in the third. The Fire, with 13 minutes of contest remaining took on the challenge and cut the deficit by more than half. A deep three-pointer from Emilia Sexton during the Fire's late contest run brought them back within nine, 88-79 with 3:20 remaining. Ultimately, Southeastern ran out of time and were unable to complete their comeback.

As a team, Southeastern shot 44.6% from the field, 50% from behind the arc, and 77.8% from the free throw line.

Raegan Linster led the Fire in scoring with 20 points and added three rebounds and two assists coming off of the bench. Geer was the team's second leading scorer with 16 and added three rebounds and three assists. Suarez (15), Sexton (12), and Knoflach (11) all finished in double digits.
