LAKELAND, Fla.- A season-best night from
Anja Knoflach and a 13-22 (59%) team effort from three-point range earned Southeastern women's basketball a spot in the Sun Conference Tournament Semifinal contest after defeating Webber International by a score of 89-76.
Â
Knoflach concluded the contest with 30 points backed by an 11-14 effort from midrange and 6-7 effort from beyond the arc. The transfer would go three whole quarters without missing a shot, converting 10 consecutive shots from midrange and six shots from distance before missing a bucket.
Â
The Fire had all the momentum early, going 12-19 (63%) from the field and 5-8 (62.5%) from three-point range in the first quarter to outscore the Warriors 31-14 after the visiting team struggled offensively with a 29% effort from midrange.
Â
The home team again outscored the Warriors in the second quarter 21-13 behind 12 points from Knoflach and a collective 53% effort from midrange. Southeastern would take a commanding 52-27 lead into halftime.
Â
The lead would be enough to fend off the Warriors despite being outscored in the final two quarters. The Fire shot a game-high 80% from the field in the third quarter while
Kiki Britzmann would emerge as the Fire's second half offensive leader. Britzmann registered 16 points in the second half to help her team control the lead.
Â
The Warriors made a fourth-quarter push after being down by as much as 25 in the second period, shooting a game-best 56% from midrange to bring the deficit withing 10. Five consecutive points by Knoflach would diminish any sort of Warrior momentum as the Fire would go on to take the 89-76 victory.
Â
Britzmann tallied 26 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals while
Gabby Suarez led the team in assists with six.
Â
Southeastern will next face St. Thomas on Friday in the semifinal contest.
