LAKELAND, Fla.- After two run-rule victories over Bryan College last weekend to open the 2023 season, No. 4 ranked Southeastern softball will host Truett McConnell on Friday for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
The Fire offense was dominate during opening weekend, hitting a collective .533 with 19 runs scored.
Haleigh Harrell led the way going a perfect 5-5 at the plate with six runs scored and two stolen bases while
Chapel Cunningham and
Leah Gonzalez each went 3-4 with four RBI's.
Erica Stahl concluded week one going 4-6 with four runs scored with half of her hits being doubles. Freshmen
Mallory Watts,
Lauren Sekinger, and
Nicole Wasserstrom each collected their first hits and RBI's in a Fire uniform with Watts sending her first collegiate long ball over the left field fence.
On the mound, both
Claire Sekinger and
Autumn Hunter picked up wins with Sekinger allowing just two earned runs in four innings of work and Hunter holding the Lions to one hit in game two.
The Bears of Truett McConnell come into week two with an 0-2 record after dropping a doubleheader to Middle Georgia State by scores of 9-1 and 13-5. Through the first two contests, the Bears posted a .348 batting average and .565 slugging percentage with three home runs, two by Ellie Abner. Isabelle Sullivan went 4-4 to open the weekend with a double and a home run while Abner posted a .667 average, going 2-3 with two long balls, two runs, and three RBI's.
Olivia Hagg went four innings over the weekend, allowing just one earned run on four hits and striking out seven while Kyndall Gipson and Kyleigh Sanders both earned losses after allowing 19 earned runs on a combined 15 hits and eight walks.
