MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. - The Southeastern University women's basketball team fell to 12-13 (9-6 SUN) on the season after suffering a 94-64 defeat from the Florida Memorial Lions.
The Fire were off to a good start, taking the first lead of the game and led by as many as four heading into the second quarter. A few seconds into the second quarter, the Fire extended their lead to six, 19-13 with a made jump shot by Emilia Sexton. The Lions put together a 8-2 run to tie the game 21-21 with 7:08 remaining in the half. With the game tied at 28-28 with 5:07 remaining, FMU put together another 8-0 run to give themselves their largest lead of the game thus far. Southeastern would score four more points before the half to cut the deficit to six with a score of 38-32.
As a team, Southeastern shot 38.2% from the field, 25% from the three-point line, and 100% from the free throw line.
Kiki Britzmann led all at the half with 16 points on 66% shooting.
Coming out of the half, Florida Memorial seemed to fire on all cylinders and gained a 15-point lead within the first couple of minutes. FMU led by as many as 23 with 70 seconds left in the third quarter and outscored the Fire 35-21. Southeastern found themselves in a position that they could not recover from and ultimately suffered a Sun Conference defeat.
The Fire shot 39.3% from the field, 34.6% from behind the arc, and 100% from the free throw line.
Sexton led the team in scoring with 22 points and added three steals and two rebounds. Britzmann was not far behind as she was the team's second leading scorer with 21 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
The Fire return to action for Senior Night February 16th at 5:30 p.m. in The Furnace.
