Offense Soars over Puerto Rico-Bayamon

LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern women's basketball moved to 4-3 on the season today with a 78-42 win over the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
 
The Fire had three different people in double digits with a season-high 23 points from Bekki Kalaydjiev who went 9-12 from the field and 3-5 from three-point range. Kassidy Jones also recorded a season-high 14 points with nine rebounds and four assists. Anja Knoflach recorded 10 points with four assists and four rebounds.
 
Southeastern shot 48.8% (27-59) from the field and 35.5% (11-31) from three-point range while holding the Cowboys to just 31% from the field.
 
Two early free throws by Rebecca Cook gave the Fire the lead which they would hold the entirety of the contest. Southeastern used an 8-16 effort from the field to take a 26-17 lead after the first quarter with seven points from Kalaydjiev.
 
In the second quarter, the Fire shot 53.8% from the field and 42.8% from three-point range to lead 48-30 moving into halftime. Knoflach, Cook, and Kalaydjiev combined for 15 of the Fire's 22 points in the second period going a combined 6-8 from the field.
 
The Fire offense continued to press the gas in the third quarter, going 10-18 from the field to lead by as much as 39 with 3:27 left in the quarter after holding the Cowboys scoreless for over five minutes. The defense held the Cowboys scoreless from the field for the entire third quarter, allowing just four points, all off of free throws.
 
A substantial 71-34 lead by the Fire moving into the final period was enough to counter just eight points from the Fire in the final period behind a 2-12 effort from the field to take the 78-42 win.
 
Southeastern will be back in action after Thanksgiving break as they host the University of Fort Lauderdale on November 27th at 6 p.m.
