The Fire wrestling team traveled to Reinhardt University to take on the #13 nationally ranked Eagles, where they lost the match 19-17.
The day started off with a top 10 matchup at 125 between 10th ranked
Esau Bazilme of Southeastern and seventh-ranked Angel Banda, who took the victory by major decision putting the Eagles ahead early.
The first win of the day for the Fire came in the second bout from
Andrew Voiles, who won 12-1 by major decision and tied up the match.
Kael Brisker followed Voiles up with back to back major decisions, putting the Fire up 8-4.
At 165, a top-20 matchup went down between Southeastern's 18th ranked
Trace Braun and third ranked Matt Jenkins of Reinhardt. Jenkins took the win by decision.
It wasn't until four bouts later that Southeastern found their way back in the win column, with a
Noah Gallardo win by decision, winning his bout 6-1.
The Fire tried to make their way back late into the match, and ended the day with a huge pin by
Gabe Jacobs, but it wasn't enough for the Fire to secure the victory.
The wrestling team is back in action tomorrow in Marietta, Ga. for the Life University Open.
