WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—A 27-point halftime deficit put Southeastern in a hole it was never able to dig out of during a 51-21 loss at Keiser.
The Fire fell to 4-3 on the season and 3-1 in Sun Conference play.
On offense, Southeastern was held to just 64 yards in the first half and were outgained by 180 yards on seven more plays.
"We got a little shell-shocked in the first half and it avalanched on us pretty fast," said coach
Adam Waugh. "I think we got our bearings a bit at halftime and found some things that worked a bit and the offense put together a couple scoring drives."
Southeastern got on the scoreboard for the first time at the 14:24 mark of the fourth quarter on a 10-yard pass from
Henry Austad to
Devonte Bowie. Austad then connected with Seriah Abram for a 19-yard touchdown with 10:24 left to get the Fire to 48-14.
Hudson Jones also tossed a touchdown with 43 seconds left to
Tray Jackson from 33 yards out.
Austad finished the game 8-of-13 passing for 171 yards with two scores.
Shane McLaughlin had a team-best four catches and had 68 yards.
"Our quarterback play has been a little up and down, but we think we have three guys that are similar in their skillset and get them all an opportunity to lead the team," said Waugh.
The run game was limited to 60 yards with
Josiah Neos rushing 15 times for 47 yards.
Ryan Cunningham led the defense with nine stops.
The Fire will host Florida Memorial next Saturday at 7 p.m. for Homecoming.
