LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern dropped its third match of the season, falling 4-1 to No. 3 St. Thomas on Wednesday in a physical game that featured 38 fouls and 15 cards.
The Fire (7-3-2, 5-3-1 SUN) had two great opportunities in the first four minutes but shots by
Ridwane Boukraa and
Edoardo Venutolo failed to connect.
After five Southeastern shots, the Bobcats sent a cross into the box in the 24
th minute that the Fire deflected into their own net. St. Thomas (11-0-1, 9-0 SUN) made it 2-0 on Benjamin Stein's third goal of the season in the 37
th minute.
The lone Fire tally came in the 52
nd minute from
Chris Thorpe for his second of the season when he ripped in a deflected cross. Less than three minutes later, Guido Cacciabue scored on a free kick just outside the box.
Cacciabue assisted on Tomas Persico's team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 69
th minute.
St. Thomas held a 15-10 advantage in shots and 8-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Henrique Cavalini made four saves.
The Fire will travel to Warner on Saturday for a 10 a.m. start.
