LAKELAND, Fla- The women's soccer team split a pair of Sun Conference games coming into another week of conference play. The Fire are currently 6-3-1 (6-1-1 SUN) on the season.
The Fire started last week in Savannah, Ga. with a loss to the undefeated, seventh ranked SCAD Savannah Bees.
Naira Lopez and
Karissa King had the only goals for the Fire, ultimately falling short 3-2.
A few days later, the Fire returned home and secured their second victory this season against Ave Maria University, 3-1.
Madelyn Davidson scored her fourth and fifth goals of the season, and
Ariadna Lozano scored her third of the season late in the second half.
Coming into this week, The Fire will travel to Miami Gardens, Fla. on Wednesday, looking to get back in the win column against the 17th ranked St. Thomas University Bobcats. The Fire and Bobcats tied 0-0 in their last meeting this season. The Bobcats are currently third in the Sun Conference rankings with a 8-1-2 (5-1-2 SUN) record. The defense for the Bobcats has been lights out so far this season, only allowing six goals in 11 games. Isabella Penaranda leads St. Thomas in saves, with 27. Gabrielle Cimino leads the team with four goals on the season.
On October 14th, the women's soccer team will host the Warner University Royals, looking to sweep the regular season against Warner with another win. Southeastern defeated Warner 3-0 in September. The Fire have won the last 11 meetings with the Royals, outscoring Warner 42-7 in those games. The Royals will look to Oddny Helgadottir, who is leading the team with seven goals. Moa Bjorestam sits right behind with six goals this season.
