Britzmann and Sexton Lift Fire to SUN Victory over Mariners

BRUNSWICK, Ga.- Southeastern claimed a wining record tonight with a 72-66 victory over Sun Conference opponent, College of Coastal Georgia, to conclude their trip to the Peach State.
 
The Fire (11-10, 8-3 SUN) offense started off slowly as they would be outscored 15-12 in the first quarter after shooting 22% from the field and 22% from three-point range. Southeastern would trail the Mariners for half of the first quarter but a three-point shot from Gabby Suarez with 4:06 on the clock would give the Fire the 10-8 lead.
 
The offense would begin its upward trend in the second quarter, outscoring the Mariners 22-16 after shooting 47% from the field. Kiki Britzmann would dominate the second quarter as she would tally 11 points to aid in the Fire's 34-31 edge heading into the locker room. The Fire would lead by as much as 11 in the second quarter with a good jumper by Anja Knoflach with 2:56 on the clock.
 
Out of the locker room, the Mariners managed to tie the contest at 37 with 6:29 on the clock but a response by Emilia Sexton in the form of eight straight points would aid the Fire to a 45-41 edge with 4:21 on the clock. Sexton would conclude the third with 10 points.
 
The Mariners tipped the scales with just 4:40 on the clock in the fourth but the Fire responded with a 7-0 run to take the 63-57 lead with 2:16 remaining. Britzmann would continue the hot-handed shooting in the final quarter, tallying 10 more points to give the Fire the eventual 72-66 victory.
 
Southeastern concluded the night shooting 40% from the field with Britzmann leading the scoring with 24 points. Sexton tallied 22 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
 
The Fire will be back home on February 2nd at 5:30 p.m. against Warner University.
