Women's Basketball Samantha Holcomb

Fire Face Gyrenes this Week

LAKELAND, Fla.- Looking to extend their win-streak to three, Southeastern women's basketball will host their first contest in two weeks on Thursday as they compete against Ave Maria University at 5:30 p.m.

The Fire (8-10, 5-3 SUN) are coming off a 75-69 road victory against Keiser University last week and will look to take the momentum of that win into this week's contest. Emilia Sexton aided in the Fire victory with 21 points after going 5-10 from distance and 8-13 from the field.

In SUN play, Southeastern averages 74.6 points per contest behind a 41.5% effort from the field and 32% from beyond the arc. Gabby Suarez leads the SUN in scoring with 18.3 points per contest against non-conference opponents and 16.4 points per game against SUN opponents. Suarez also leads the conference in distance shooting with a .367 three-point percentage. Josselin Geer has been successful against conference opponents, posting 13.3 points per game behind a .512 field goal percentage and 8.1 rebounds per game. Kiki Brtizmann and Anja Knoflach have also played their best basketball in conference outings as Britzmann has shot 51% from the field while Knoflach has posted a 38% effort from distance.

The Gyrenes hold a current 14-5 overall record and 6-2 conference record and sit at second place in the SUN. Collectively, the Gyrenes tally 70.5 points per game in conference contests, shooting 38% from the field. Grace Field has dominated both sides of the ball, totaling 16.4 points per game and a conference-best 13.1 rebounds per game and currently sits at 4th in the nation in offensive rebounds with 96. Casey Humphrey has been the second-leading scorer for the Gyrenes in conference play with 12.3 per contest while Gianna Santacrochas buried 17 three-point shots for a .370 average.

The Fire will be looking for redemption after the Gyrenes broke the Fire's historical 15-game winning streak and 108 consecutive Sun Conference wins streak earlier this season with an 88-78 loss on the road.
