Outside Shooting Lifts Men’s Basketball over Keiser

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.—Southeastern connected on a season-best 15 3-pointers and connected on 53.6% from bonus range to cruise to an 87-64 win at Keiser on Saturday.
 
Nine different players made at least one 3-pointer in the game with leading scorer Riley Minix connecting on 3-of-4 from long range during a 19-point, 19-rebound effort that also saw him dish out six assists. Joshua Blazquez added three makes from distance on five attempts during a 17-point showing.
 
Blazquez knocked down his first 3-pointer of the game at the 14:39 mark of the first half to tie the game at nine and sparked a 15-3 run over a 5:14 span of the half taking a 21-12 lead with 9:39 left on an Aaron Jones 3-pointer. The defense did its part during the run, holding Keiser to just 1-of-6 from the field and four turnovers.
 
A three-point play by Justin Tucker off of an offensive rebound at the 5:38 mark helped Keiser (12-7, 5-3 SUN) cut the deficit to six at 28-22, but the Fire (9-11, 5-3 SUN) closed the half outscoring the Seahawks 9-6 as Keiser made just two of their last 11 shots of the half and went to the locker room trailing the Fire 37-28.
 
Keiser was held scoreless for the first 4:18 of the second half during a 13-0 run by the Fire to start the half which saw the Fire make all but one shot. The Seahawks didn't get their first field goal of the second half until the 13:26 mark of the second half to trim the SEU lead to 53-32.
 
The lead went to as much as 33 with 7:26 left in the game on a pair of Reggie Mesidor free throws to give the Fire a 72-39 lead. Mesidor added 14 points, going 2-of-4 from 3-point land to record his 200th career 3-pointer made.
 
During the second half, the Fire shot 61.9% from the field and were 8-of-12 from 3-point land to outscore the Seahawks 50-36. Defensively, the Fire held Keiser to just 34.8% from the field for the game and just seven made 3-pointers.
 
Jalan Mull made a living at the free throw line, shooting 10 of the team's 26 attempts and converting on eight and finished with 15 points.
 
The Fire will be back at home on Thursday to take on Ave Maria to begin its second loop through The Sun Conference.
