Women's Soccer Hosts Two Home Contests this Week

LAKELAND, Fla.- Coming off of a thrilling 5-4 victory over the No. 2 ranked team in the nation during their home opener last week, the No. 10 ranked Southeastern University Fire women's soccer team will head into a two-game week. On Thursday, the Fire will host Middle Georgia State at 6 p.m. and will round out the week on Saturday with a 3 p.m. matchup against No. 23, Grace College, at home.

A 3-0 start to the season for the Fire has been aided by 11 goals and average of 3.67 per contest. The Fire offense has also recorded a .524 shot on goal percentage, converting 22 of their 42 shots on goal.

Naira Lopez has captained the offense, already matching her season goal total from last season with four. Karissa King and Nanako Omae have each recorded a goal and two assists while Ramsey Watkins and Jennifer Luna have found the back of the net twice each.

Defensively, the Fire have held their opponents to 1.67 goals per game behind 11 saves by Holly Eddins on 16 shots faced.

The Knights of Middle Georgia come into the week with a 2-1-1 record after wins over two Sun Conference teams in Ave Maria University and Thomas University and are coming off of a 0-0 tie with St. Thomas University on Monday. In their first four games, the Knights have netted six goals with Miagh Downey recording three of the six while also leading the team in assists with two while senior midfielder Tatjana Steinau has recorded two assists and a goal.

In four contests, the No. 23 Lancers have gone 4-0, ranking third nationally in goals scored with 23 and shots per game at 27.5. The Lancers also rank as the top team in the nation in assists with 24, four of which have come from Kailey Burrell.

JJ Aalbue currently leads the Lancers in goals with five and has also been credited with two assists, totaling 12 points which ranks in the top 20 nationally. Aalbue also ranks second nationally in shots at 26. Danae Mariarty sits just one point behind Aalbue with four goals and three assists for 11 points while Madison Tuma has also recorded four goals.

Sofia Lerro and Libby Stratton have yet to allow a goal as keepers with Stratton recording six saves.
