LAKELAND, Fla.- The Southeastern University Fire men's soccer team put on an offensive show today in their mid-day game against Middle Georgia, finding the net seven times by seven different players to secure the dominating 7-0 victory and advance to 2-1-2.
The Fire connected on their first goal in the 11
th minute as
Edoardo Venutolo registered his team-leading fourth goal of the season off an assist by
Nico Munari, finding the top left corner.
In the 24
th minute, Munari would add a goal of his own with an all-out, diving header off a cross from
James Morrissey that got into the bottom right corner, advancing the Fire lead to two.
The Fire would grab one more before the end of the half with a shot into the right corner by
Aitor Granero.
Chris Thorpe would collect his second assist of the season with the goal in the 40
th minute and would also pick up a goal in the 58
th minute.
Eighteen minutes into the second period,
Caio Guazzelli would force a turnover with his defensive effort, drawing the keeper out and capitalizing on an empty net for the Fire's fourth goal.
Freshman
Silviano Espinal would extend the Fire lead to a touchdown in the 84
th minute after registering his first collegiate goal, taking a cross by Morrisey and beating the keeper into the bottom left.
Kory Nekoloff would conclude the Fire scoring three minutes before the end of regulation with an assist by
Alejandro Cuartas.
Morrisey led the offensive production for the Fire with two assists while Murio and Thorpe each ended with a goal and an assist.
The Fire will next travel to Lawrenceville, Ga. to compete against Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday at 1 p.m.
