LAKELAND, Fla.- Southeastern University head men's basketball coach
Randy Lee has released the finalized 2022-23 schedule. This year's slate of games features nine games against NAIA National Tournament teams.
"Our non-conference schedule will help us get ready for a challenging year in The Sun Conference," said Lee. "We are excited about the Sun-Southern States Crossover as well as The Show, and our own classic that will provide tournament-like atmospheres with high quality opponents on back-to-back days."
Southeastern kicks off the 2022-23 season with the Florida College Classic. The first game sees the Fire tipping-off on Thursday October 27
th at 5:30 p.m. in Temple Terrace against Fisher College. The following day, SEU returns to Temple Terrace, where they will take on Middle Georgia State University at 5:30 p.m.
The Fire tip off their home opener on Saturday November 5
th at 7 p.m. versus Florida National University. Sun Conference play begins the following week on Saturday November 12
th as SEU will travel south to face off against Ave Maria University on at 4 p.m. Last year saw the Fire go 2-1 versus the Gyrenes in three total matchups.
SEU will return to The Furnace to host two Sun Conference opponents in three days. On Thursday November 17
th at 7:30 p.m., the Fire will matchup versus the College of Coastal Georgia. Two days later, SEU will take on Thomas University in The Furnace at 4 p.m. to conclude this two-game homestretch.
After their visit to Winter Park at NCAA Division II Rollins College on November 23
, the Fire head to Kingsport, Tenn. to participate in The Show NAIA Showcase November 26-27. Here, the Fire will face Shawnee State University and Freed-Hardeman University, which competed in the NAIA Opening Round.
Southeastern returns to SUN play to take on a pair of Polk County rivals December 1
st and 3
rd. The Fire will host the 2022 Sun Conference Regular Season Co-Champions Warner University, who also competed in the NAIA Opening Round. Then, SEU will make its way to Babson Park to face Webber International University, whom the fire split both games with last season. SEU then will return to Temple Terrace, where they will face off against Florida College on December 9
th. The Fire will then return to The Furnace for a home matchup versus Johnson University-Florida.
The Fire will put on their December classic on the 16
th and 17th, hosting Bethel University to commence things and finishing out with Truett McConnell University.
Two weeks after the December Classic, the Fire will travel to Montgomery, Ala. for the Southern States Tournament from December 29-30. The first matchup will see the Fire facing Faulkner University, another NAIA Opening Round team from last season. The following day, Southeastern will take on Talladega College to conclude the tournament.
The Fire ring in the New Year at home versus Florida Memorial University on January 5
th. Two days later, SEU will travel to Miami Gardens for a SUN matchup against St. Thomas University. On Thursday January 12
th, SEU will return home for their final non-conference matchup versus Florida College.
SEU will begin their stretch of nine consecutive SUN games on the 14
th and 19
th versus Keiser University and Ave Maria. A week later, the Fire hit the road to Thomasville, Ga. for a matchup against Thomas University on January 26. Two days later, SEU will head over to Brunswick, GA. for their second game against College of Coastal Georgia to round out their January slate.
February tips off at The Furnace with the Fire hosting Warner University and then travel for a road game versus Webber International University. The final three games of the regular season see the Fire hosting St. Thomas University on February 9
th before traveling to Miami Gardens with Florida Memorial University on February 11
th. SEU concludes the regular season at The Furnace against Keiser University.
The 85
th annual NAIA Men's Basketball Championship Opening Round will occur at campus sites March 7-8 with the final site taking place March 18-23 inside Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri.
