LAKE WALES, Fla. - The Southeastern University Fire swept the Warner University Royals 3-0 in their road game contest on Wednesday, September 14th.
In set one against the Royals, the Fire took an early 11-6 lead and before the Royals rallied and tied the match and eventually took the lead 14-13. A couple costly errors from the Royals put Southeastern back in front and the Fire continued to hold the lead to take the set 25-21.
Set two saw the Fire's best offensive performance of the night. Southeastern had 31 attack attempts with a hitting percentage of .323 with 13 kills. The Royals lead the Fire the majority of the way with the Fire trailing by as many as four, Southeastern willed themselves back into the lead on a kill from Emila Harding to tie the set 16-16 followed by an error on the Royals to put the Fire up 17-16. Southeastern went on a 9-5 run to close out the second set 25-22.
The Fire found themselves trailing as much as seven to start the third set. After a Southeastern timeout was called, The Fire regrouped and went on a 12-5 run to tie the lead. With the set tied up at 18-18, a service ace from Grace Petty put the Fire out in front. Fire held the Royals to only eight points coming out of the timeout where they were trailing by seven to win the game in the final set 25-21.
Petty led the Fire with 10 digs and eight kills, while Alexandra Postlethwaite recorded 12 assists and two aces.
The Fire return home for their next contest against Keiser University on September 17th at 2 p.m.
