Men's Soccer Looks to Carry Early Momentum All the Way to Indiana this Week

LAKELAND, Fla.- This week, the 1-0-0 Southeastern University men's soccer team will look to continue their hot start after defeating Point University in their regular season home-opener as they travel to Indiana to take on No. 21 Bethel University on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Grace College on Saturday at 3 p.m.

To begin the road trip, the Fire will travel to Mishawaka, Ind. for their first matchup against Bethel University. The Pilots are currently ranked No. 21 in the NAIA and sit 1-0 with six goals after their first victory over Holy Cross. Luan Bressy and Marcos Estabaranz both tallied two goals while Eduardo Da Silva and Miguel Martins tallied one goal apiece. Covering the net, Finn Popescu allowed only one goal in 90 mins played. The last matchup between these two programs came during the 2021 season where the Pilots controlled the game with all three goals coming in the first half. SEU battled with a goal from Uziel Hernandez but ultimately came up short in the end.

Two days later, the Fire will head over to Winona Lake, Ind. for an afternoon matchup versus Grace College. The Lancers took their season opener against the University of Michigan-Dearborn, defeating the Wolverines 4-1. Martim Sequeira scored two goals for the Lancers with Felipe Gruber and Scanferlato Simone each contributing a goal. Matteo Conci guarded the net well as he allowed just one goal in 89 minutes of play. It was last season when these two teams met for the first and only time where SEU took the Lancers all the way to overtime. Colin Horn, netted the game winning goal for the Fire halfway through the first OT period, giving the Fire a 3-2 victory.

The Fire have recorded five goals after their 5-2 win over Point University while Gianluca Contegno, AJ Davis, Lucas Nishioka, Vittorio Sasso, and Edoardo Venutolo each put up goals. Veteran goalkeeper, Jonathan Wojcicki, kept his team in the lead while allowing only two goals with a save in 90 minutes of play.
