COLUMBUS, Ga.- After taking the 5-4 victory over Webber International in game one of the NAIA World Series, the seventh-seeded Southeastern University Fire will take on the No. 2 seed in Oklahoma City in game two at 5 p.m.
The Stars of Oklahoma City have been the historical powerhouse of the NAIA as they have collected 33 trips to the World Series and an NAIA best 10 championship titles. The 50-6 squad has accumulated a .369 average which ranks third in the nation and ranks in the top five in hits with 570 and triples with 28.
The pitching staff has thrown a collective 18 shutouts and accumulated a .200 opponent batting average on the arms of Shelbey Cornleson and Lexi Duff, both who hold ERA's of under two. Cornelson comes into the national tournament with 220 innings, a 32-3 record, and ranks first nationally in games started (36) and wins while her 293 strikeouts ranks fifth in the NAIA. Duff has accumulated 122 innings and 65 strikeouts for an ERA of 1.84.
Offensively, Brooklyn Mason has registered an average of .450 with 77 hits, 13 doubles, and 43 RBI's while Tiffany Paul ranks fifth nationally in RBI's with 66.
The seventh seeded Fire enter the contest with a .356 average and rank third nationally in hits with 595 and fifth nationally in runs with 405. The Fire have also taken advantage of their speed throughout the year, putting them at the top of the NAIA in stolen bases with 233.
On the mound, the Fire have posted a staff ERA of 2.29, 18 shutouts, and an opponent batting average of .212.
The winner will advance to play on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. while the loser will play on Saturday at 6 p.m.
