Softball Concludes the Regular Season with a Series Victory over Warriors

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BABSON PARK, Fla.- The No. 18 ranked Southeastern University Fire concluded their regular season with a 43-8 overall record and 23-4 SUN record today after taking the Sun Conference series 2-1 from the Webber International Warriors after dropping the first contest 5-4 and taking game two 8-5.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Warriors took the first lead after two Fire freebies set up a sacrifice fly situation in the bottom of the third and added another off of a one-run single up the middle, taking the 2-0 lead.

In the top of the fifth, the Fire tipped the scales and took the 4-2 lead off of four hits including an RBI triple by Erica Stahl but the Fire were unable to hold the lead as the Warriors would go on to add three runs off of two Fire errors with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to take the 5-4 victory, snapping the Fire's 17-game winning streak.

Autumn Hunter would drop to 13-4 on the season after allowing nine hits and five runs, all unearned, and striking out four.

Game two saw the Fire clinch the series with an 8-5 victory that began with an Alex Hilton RBI single in the top of the second.

The Fire added three more in the next trip to the plate after two walks allowed a Katie Atkins single to score two runs. Chapel Cunningham grabbed one more before the conclusion of the third off of a sacrifice bunt that scored Haleigh Harrell.

The Warriors got on the board in the fourth after a leadoff walk would come around to score on two sacrifice bunts and a single.

Atkins continued her strong offensive game two performance after grabbing two more RBI's on a double into left center, moving the Fire lead to 6-1. Two errors would allow two more to cross to extend the Fire lead to seven runs but the Warriors would go on to capitalize on four walks in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to three.

Payton Thomas would throw a scoreless final two innings to secure the 8-5 victory while Kenzie Forrester would claim the win after going four innings and allowing just one earned run on one hit.

Atkins ended game two going 3-4 with four RBI's and two doubles.

The Sun Conference Regular Season Champions will next head into the SUN Tournament in Clearwater, Fla next week beginning on Thursday and concluding on Saturday.
