Softball Stays Red Hot with 16 Game Win Streak and Sixth Sun Series Sweep

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 18 ranked Southeastern University Fire completed their sixth Sun Conference sweep of the season today after taking both games from Keiser University to advance to 41-7 overall and 21-3 in SUN play.

Game one saw the Seahawks take a quick 1-0 lead off of a one-run single but a two-run double by Haleigh Harrell and infield single by Erica Stahl would quickly erase the Seahawk lead.

The Seahawks tacked on another in the second after another RBI single to bring the score within one but another Stahl RBI in the form of a sacrifice fly and a one-run single by Katie Atkins would give the Fire the 5-2 advantage.

Both teams would add more in the fourth after KU managed a sacrifice fly and the Fire capitalized on a bases loaded situation with Ashley Ellison drawing a bases loaded, RBI hit by pitch. Leah Gonzalez then followed with a single up the middle that scored Harrell to give her team the 7-3 lead. Alex Hilton continued the scoring in the fourth with a two-run single that scored Atkins and Ellison and lengthening the Fire lead to 9-3.

In the fifth, Riley Sanders added another after scoring on a wild pitch.

The Seahawks grabbed two more as they were down to their final out off of a two-run home run but would fall short of the Fire 10-5.

Autumn Hunter collected her 13th win of the season on the mound after going a complete seven innings and allowing seven hits and striking out six.

Atkins and Harrell both ended game one with three hits while Stahl and Hilton each recorded two RBI's.

Game two saw three different arms for the Seahawks that managed to hold one of the top run scoring teams in the nation to three runs.

Atkins started the scoring with a triple down the right field line that allowed Sanders to cross uncontested in the first while a throwing error in the second would allow Ellison to score all the way from first.

A sacrifice fly into right field by the Seahawks in the fourth made it a one run ballgame but another Atkins RBI in the sixth off of a single into left field secure the 3-1 victory and three game sweep.

Claire Sekinger moved her record to 18-2 with a complete game allowing one earned run on five hits and four strikeouts.

Atkins ended game two 2-3 with two RBI's.

The Fire have now won 16 consecutive games and swept six of the eight SUN series this season for the first 40 win season since the 2018 season.

SEU will head into their last week of the regular season next week as they take on Webber International in Babson Park on Friday and Saturday.
