LAKELAND, Fla.- The top team in the Sun Conference, Southeastern University, will head into another SUN series this weekend as they take on Keiser University with one game on Friday at 4 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 and 2 p.m.
The Seahawks of Keiser come into the weekend series with a 20-21-1 overall record and sit tied for sixth in the Sun Conference with a 9-12 record.
As of recently, the Seahawks took on Thomas University at home where they concluded the weekend with a three-game sweep by scores of 5-2, 7-2, and 3-2.
As a team, KU has posted a .281 average with 4.2 runs per contest and an on base percentage of .342. Cassie Querry leads the Seahawk offense in runs scored (27), RBI's (27), home runs (7), and walks (15) for a .417 on base percentage and team high slugging percentage of .586.
Defensively, the pitching staff has looked to Lizzy Small for a majority of their innings as she has collected 142 innings, 9-11 record in 24 appearances, and an ERA of 2.86.
The nationally ranked Fire come into the weekend ranked Top 10 in the NAIA in multiple different categories including runs, hits, RBI's, stolen bases, batting average, shutouts, and opponent batting average. Their 17 shutouts and 179 stolen bases are good enough for second place in the NAIA while their 434 hits ranks third nationally.
As a team, the Fire have posted a .361 average which is good enough to rank No. 9 nationally and score an average of seven runs per contest.
Jamie Mead has been a consistent force for the Fire as she leads the team in average with a .442, on-base percentage with a .538, walks with 24, and comes in second in stolen bases (29) and RBI's (40). Freshman
Riley Sanders has been the largest contributor to the Fire's stolen bases as she leads the NAIA with 55 and has posted a .434 average in the leadoff spot.
The success of the Fire pitching staff has come down to two arms in
Claire Sekinger and
Autumn Hunter who both have posted ERA's under two with Sekinger posting a team best 1.48 ERA in 104.1 innings and ranks sixth nationally in shutouts with seven. Hunter has gone 87.2 innings and collected a 1.84 ERA with an overall record of 12-3.
