Box Score MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.- The No. 19 ranked Southeastern University softball team advanced to 10-3 in Sun Conference play today with their 16-2 victory over the Florida Memorial Lions in game one of the series.
The Fire offense took advantage of fourteen hits and five errors to take game one and were two outs away from securing a collective perfect game shutout of the Lions as they would go on to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth off of two hits.
Riley Sanders led off the game with an infield bunt single and was followed by an RBI infield single by
Jamie Mead who would eventually come home to score on a wild pitch.
In the second, the Fire added five more off of four hits and an error to take the 7-0 lead after four consecutive singles including a two RBI single by Mead and a sacrifice fly by
Erica Stahl. The final Fire run of the second would come off an error that would allow
Katie Atkins to score from second.
Two more Lion errors in the third would allow two more Fire runs and would be followed by an RBI single by Stahl to take the 10-0 lead.
Linsey Arnett would collect a pinch hit RBI in the fourth off of a single into right center that scored
Reagan Griffis, making the score 11-0 moving into the fifth.
Five more runs in the fifth would begin with a two RBI double by
Katie Atkins who was brought home by a Cunningham single two batters later. A sacrifice fly by Arnett and another Lion error would secure the 16-0 lead with the Lions down to their final three outs.
In the bottom of the fifth, the Lions grabbed their first baserunner of the contest with a walk and would go on to collect two runs off of two hits to finalize the 16-2 game one.
Sanders and Mead each collected two hits with
Claire Sekinger advancing to 11-2 on the season after going two innings with no hits and four strikeouts.
Kenzie Forrester also went two complete innings without allowing a baserunner with three strikeouts.
Games two and three of the SUN series will take place tomorrow at 10 and 12 p.m.
