Box Score 2 LAKELAND, Fla.- After collecting their seventh consecutive win, the Southeastern University Fire softball team advanced to 13-4 on the season with their doubleheader sweep of the Calumet College of St. Joseph by scores of 10-1 (six innings) and 11-6 in game two.
In game one,
Claire Sekinger advanced to 5-1 after going four innings and recording six strikeouts while allowing no earned runs. The Fire got on the board early after a two-RBI double by the Sun Conference Player of the Week,
Katie Atkins.
Haleigh Harrell advanced the Fire lead to 3-0 with a sacrifice fly. The next inning saw
Jamie Mead push the score to 4-0 with an RBI single into right field.
In the fourth,
Erica Stahl doubled into left field, scoring two more as the Fire advanced their lead to 6-0 and was followed by another Atkins RBI in the form of a sacrifice fly into right field.
The Crimson Wave got on the board in the top of the fifth with an RBI groundout, making it 7-1.
The Fire would end the contest in the sixth via the run rule after another RBI double with Stahl securing the 10-1 run rule with a two RBI home run.
Both
Riley Sanders and Mead ended game one 4-4 with a collective seven runs scored while Stahl finished 2-3 with two runs scored and four RBI's.
Game two saw
Payton Thomas advance to 3-1 after going four innings allowing four runs, all coming in the fourth inning during a five-run Crimson Wave push while the Fire battled the rain.
The Fire again jumped out early with four runs in the first off of a two-RBI single by
Ashley Ellison, an RBI single by
Chapel Cunningham and a throwing error that brought another run across.
Stahl collected her fifth RBI of the day and gave her team the 5-0 lead in the second with a single to left field.
Three more Fire runners would score in the third off of a wild pitch and RBI singles by Sanders and Mead.
The five run fourth by the Crimson Wave brought the score within three with an 8-5 score.
Atkins would secure the series sweep and 11-6 victory with a two-run RBI home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Sanders Stahl would collect three more hits in game two, pushing her to a nearly perfect 7-8 day with seven stolen bases and seven runs scored.
Stahl also collected three more hits to end the day 5-7 with five RBI's and four runs scored.
The Fire will next take on Indiana Tech at home on March 14
th at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
