Box Score 2 GULF SHORES, Ala.- The Southeastern University softball team put on a show this weekend at the Gulf Coast Invitational as they return to Florida after going a perfect 4-0 with today's wins against LSU-Alexandria and the No. 10 ranked Campbellsville University Tigers.
Game one saw the Fire take a 12-4 victory over the Generals in five innings behind nine hits and no errors. The Generals jumped to the early lead with a two-run home run in top of the first but the Fire responded with three of their own in the bottom of the frame.
Katie Atkins started her impressive day at the plate with an RBI single and was followed by a two-RBI double by
Haleigh Harrell to end the first with a 3-2 score.
The Fire added three more in the second off of another two-RBI double, this time off the bat of
Erica Stahl, and Atkins' second RBI single of the contest.
Things broke open for the Fire offense in the third as they would go on to add five more runs, starting with a pass ball scoring Harrell. Two more RBI's to Stahl's total came in the form of a single that moved the score to 9-3. Atkins would then collect her third hit and fourth RBI of the game behind a double.
The final Fire run would come in the form of a
Linsey Arnett RBI single to secure the 12-4 run rule victory in game one.
Stahl and Atkins both ended game one with four RBI's with Stahl going 2-3 with two runs scored and Atkins going a perfect 3-3 with a run scored.
Autumn Hunter moved to 5-2 on the season with the win after going four innings and striking out five.
Game two concluded with a football-like score of 18-15 with the Fire securing their second win over a Top 20 ranked opponent on the weekend as they defeated the No. 10 ranked Campbellsville University.
The Fire recorded 18 runs off of 14 hits and five Tiger errors to come out on top of the offensive dual.
As the home team, the Fire pounced on the Tigers early taking the 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first after two more Atkins' RBI's that were followed up with a two-RBI single by
Leah Gonzalez. The Tigers refused to roll over and would go on to score five in the top of the second behind two RBI singles and a three-RBI home run.
The Tigers continued to build on that momentum in the top of the third as they would go on to take the 9-4 lead after two RBI doubles and an RBI single. No better response from the Fire than six runs in the bottom of the frame to take the 10-9 lead and extinguish any Tiger momentum. Harrell and
Riley Sanders each collected a RBI infield single while a bases loaded walk to
Madison Williams brought another Fire run home.
Jamie Mead pressed the accelerator as she collected a bases-clearing double to give the Fire the lead.
Another lead change came in the bottom of the fourth after two two-RBI long balls put the Tigers back up 13-10.
The Fire added seven more runs in response off of three different RBI singles while Atkins recorded her seventh and eighth RBI of the day on a double into left field as the Fire took the 17-13 lead.
The final Fire run came in the bottom of the fifth in the form of a RBI sacrifice fly by
Alex Hilton.
The Tigers would add two more off of a solo home run and an RBI groundout but would come up as the Fire would walk away with their fourth win of the weekend.
Claire Sekinger would claim her second win over a ranked opponent in two days while Atkins finished game two going 2-4 with four RBI's.
Ashley Ellison and
Leah Gonzalez also ended the contest with two hits a piece while Harrell concluded game two going a perfect 4-4 with three runs scored and two RBI's.
The Fire will return back home to face Calumet College of St. Joseph on Tuesday at 1 and 3 p.m and will look to expand on their 12-4 record.
