LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 17 Southeastern University Fire women's tennis team surged to its fifth-consecutive victory this season with a 4-0 defeat of the Aquinas College Saints Thursday afternoon at the Beerman Family Tennis Complex. The match was only played to decision and the men's match was not able to reach a decision due to inclement weather.
The Fire quickly secured the doubles' point with a 6-0 shutout at line three by
Neleah Neiberline and
Irene Lopez and a 6-2 win by
Martina Picardi and
Priscila Baptista at line two. The duo of Picardi and Baptista are now 7-3 in doubles' play this season.
Only the bottom three lines of singles' play were able to be completed before the nasty weather settled upon the complex.
Sophomore
Abigail Damon earned a dominant two-set victory at line four, dropping just one game in the matchup.
Junior
Maria Martinez was victorious in straight sets at line six in her season debut to put SEU ahead of AC 3-0.
Fire sophomore
Nadezda Bijelic clinched the match for Southeastern over Aquinas with a two-setter at line five.
The SEU women and men are back in action on Monday in Hileah for a road battle versus the Florida National University Conquistadors. Match time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
