Fire Clinch Series Versus Eagles with Gritty Game Two Win

LAKELAND, Fla.- The No. 3 Southeastern University Fire baseball team clinched the series from the No. 21 Reinhardt University Eagles with a 6-2 victory in game two on Friday.

Fire junior left-handed pitcher Robb Adams was the showcase for SEU, tossing seven brilliant innings where he threw 108 pitches, allowed one earned run on five hits, walked none, and struck out eight. Reinhardt was 2-13 (.154) at the plate on the day against Adams with runners on base.

"Robb did a heck of a job on the mound. He is one of the better ones I've ever had on the mound," shared SEU head coach Adrian Dinkel. "He was able to go in and out and use three pitches for a strike.

Offensively, SEU struck first in the bottom of the first via a two-RBI single off the bat of Gary Lora which brought home Sam Faith and Brian Fuentes.

Reinhardt got one back in the top of the third via a sacrifice fly to right field to trim the SEU lead to 2-1. Fuentes gave the Fire some more breathing room in the bottom half of the frame, launching his fourth home run of the season, a two-run shot, over the right field wall to grow the Southeastern advantage to 4-1.

SEU tacked on another in the bottom of the fifth, when Sam Faith doubled home Abdel Guadalupe in the bottom of the fifth to grow the Fire lead to 5-1.

Reinhardt trimmed things to a three-run SEU lead in the top of the eighth on another sacrifice fly to right field.

Southeastern's senior closer DJ Roberts was clutch once again in the series for the Fire, entering the top of the eighth with no outs and two runners on and tossing two innings of one-hit relief. Roberts walked none and picked up a strikeout as he earned his second save in as many days.

"I try to find any way to help my team win," remarked Roberts. "I threw my best out there and when I am on the mound I don't think about anything except helping my team win."

Faith finished an impressive 3-3 at the plate and had two stolen bases.

SEU looks to go for the series sweep over Reinhardt tomorrow in the series finale. First pitch is at 12:00 p.m.
