LAKELAND, Fla.—Less than 24 hours after a loss at Florida College, Southeastern bounced back with a dominant win at The Furnace.
Senior
Riley Minix led a dominant effort with 34 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, and four blocks to help Southeastern defeat Johnson University-Florida 98-52 to move to 6-6 on the year.
Minix led the Fire in all four categories.
An 8-0 run gave the Fire a 10-2 lead just 3:45 into the contest, but the Suns were able to get within three at the 8:31 mark at 20-17. Southeastern responded with the next seven points to take their first double-digit lead at the 5:38 mark on a
Joshua Blazquez layup to go up 27-17.
Blazquez added 17 points and five steals in 26 minutes.
Minix was dominant in the first half, registering a double-double with 1:52 left in the half with his 10
th rebound. The senior had 22 points and 11 rebounds in the first half. The Fire ended the half on a 7-0 run over the final 2:34 to build a 14-point lead at the intermission, 41-27.
In the second half, Minix added 12 more points in 10 minutes in the second half.
The lead ballooned to 40 during a 25-0 run over a 5:50 span to give the Fire an 81-41 advantage.
Sean Shore also had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Fire will take on Bethel University (Ind.) on Friday to start play at the SEU Classic.
