Fire Open up SUN Tournament Play With a 3-0 Win

LAKELAND,Fla. - The Southeastern Volleyball team defeated the Florida Memorial Lions 3-0 to advance to the Sun Conference Tournament Semifinal.

Southeastern trailed 0-2 to start the first set and traded leads with the Lions five times before either team could jump out in front with a comfortable lead. A pair of aces from both Kennedy Jones and Grace Petty helped the Fire go on a 10-3 run to put Southeastern up 20-10. The Fire ultimately took the first set convincingly, 25-13.

The second set saw more of a competitive setting between both teams where Florida Memorial was able to get a comfortable lead early, leading 12-4. The Fire came out of a timeout and proceeded to capitalize off of the Lions costly errors, and proceeded to execute on offense as well. Southeastern came back within reach to tie the score six times late in the set. With the score being 22-22, two kills by Jones and a set error on the Lions gave the Fire a victory in set two.

In the final set, Florida Memorial started to capitalize off of the Fire's errors to keep the set competitive. With the score being 12-12, Southeastern went on a 5-0 run to gain the biggest lead of the set. The Lions efforts in a late game comeback fell short as the Fire took the victory 25-18.

Jones and Emilia Harding led the game with 11 kills each, Alexandra Postlethwaite led the team with 20 assists and added 10 digs. Holly Kaczmarek led the team in digs with 12, followed by Grace Petty with 11.
