LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern made two first half goals stand up to advance to its seventh-consecutive Sun Conference Tournament Championship match with a 2-1 win over SCAD in Tuesday night's semifinal.
The Fire (13-2-2) had its defense tested in the first 10 minutes of the game, having to hold off a pair of shots and three corner kicks to start the game. Southeastern finally got involved with the offense in the 12
th minute of the game and generated a pair of corner kicks.
In the 14
th minute, on the second corner by SEU,
Jennifer Luna headed in a feed from
Naira Lopez for her fourth goal of the season to put the Fire up 1-0.
Mashell Rodriguez made an immediate impact when she subbed on in the 35
th minute, winning a ball in the midfield and passed it up the right wing to
Ariadna Lozano who picked up her fifth goal of the year to make it 2-0.
SCAD (14-4-1) scored its lone goal 101 seconds into the second half when Mia Nelson finished a feed from Abigail Siddall for her first collegiate goal.
Holly Eddins made three of her six saves in the second half to earn the win. The last save she made was in the 82
nd minute of the contest as the Fire defense held the Bees without a shot in the final seven minutes when trailing by one.
Southeastern will meet Keiser on Friday at 11 a.m. in West Palm Beach in the title match.
