Men's Basketball Opens Home Slate

LAKELAND, Fla.- After kicking off the 2022-23 season last week going 1-1, the No. 17 ranked Southeastern University men's basketball team will look to their home opener this Saturday against Florida National at 7 p.m.
 
Through the first week of the season, the Fire averaged 86.5 points per contest behind a .461 field goal percentage and .310 three-point percentage. Reigning Sun Conference Player of the Year Riley Minix picked up where he left off last season, earning SUN Player of the Week honors after a 58-point week with 36 rebounds. First off the bench for the Fire has been Reggie Mesidor who thus far leads the Fire in field goal percentage at .591 while also holding a .538 three-point percentage thanks to his 7-13 effort from distance. Sean Shore has also had a strong showing to open the season as he currently averages a double-double with 15.5 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.
 
The Conquistadors opened their season last week going 0-1 with a 76-65 loss to Warner University. In that contest, FNU shot 44% from the field and 40% from beyond the arc with Matthew Robinson leading the offense with 24 points. The Conquistadors do return their leading scorer from last season, Ryan Sanchez, who concluded the year with 112 points and a shooting percentage of .430. The Conquistadors will be tasked with replacing last year's leading defensive performer, Jordan Cardenas, who concluded the season with 75 boards for an average of 7.5 per game.
 
The Fire hold a historical record of 4-1 over the Conquistadors with the last contest resulting in a 114-107 victory for the Fire in the 2016 season.
