MIAMI, Fla.—Southeastern placed four athletes on the All-Sun Conference Football First Team and five more on the second team when the league released the honors Wednesday afternoon.
First-team honors went to
Kaylan Wiggins,
Marc Viechec,
Ashton Garner, and
Logan Gregory. On the second team were
Bryan Bell,
Shane McLaughlin,
Tre Dickerson,
Khalid Scott,
Ryan Cunningham.
The nine honorees were third-most in the league this season.
In his only season with the Fire, Wiggins led The Sun Conference in passing yards per game at 193.5. The quarterback from Sanford threw 10 touchdowns and rushed for another eight and added 512 rushing yards which was good for ninth in the league.
Viechec, now a three-time first-team selection, was second in the league in tackles with 88 and tackles per game at 9.8. The junior linebacker from Naples added 3.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss, and a pair of fumble recoveries including one for a touchdown.
Garner was good on 11 field goals including the longest in the league this year at 51 yards for a new program record. The graduate transfer kicker from Ocean Springs, Miss. was successful on 30 extra points and averaged 57.5 yards per kickoff with 10 touchbacks and only one going out of bounds.
Gregory, a freshman punter from Clearwater led the conference in yards per punt at 39.7, punts inside the 20 at 17, and fair catches with 13.
Scott is a three-time all-conference selection and has been named second team in consecutive seasons. The defensive back from Tampa had 43 tackles with 4.5 for loss and two interceptions in 2022. Cunningham, in his first season in the SEU secondary from Tarpon Springs finished second on the team in tackles with 82 including five for loss and broke up four passes.
Dickerson, a senior tackle from Fort Myers earned his first all-conference honor by being a consistent contributor on the offensive line for the Fire and helped Southeastern finish third in the league in rushing and fourth in total offense and scoring.
Bell was named all-conference in four of his five seasons with the Fire. In nine games, the running back from Fairhope, Ala. racked up 612 yards on 118 carries with five touchdowns.
McLaughlin was the team's leading receiver in his first season with the Fire with 562 yards on 26 catches with four touchdowns.
The Fire finished the 2022 season with an overall record of 6-4.
