LAKELAND, Fla.—The season came to an end for the No. 9 Fire women's soccer team with a 1-0 loss to No. 15 Westmont in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament.
A goal in the 62
nd minute from Amarys Machado who scored on a feed from Karly Kinglsey was the lone tally in the contest.
Westmont keeper Kailey Meyer made four saves to record her eighth shutout of the season.
During the first half, the Fire had the edge in shots at 5-4 with the best chance coming on a penalty kick in the 28
th minute that was saved by Meyer to energize her team.
In the second half, the Fire were outshot 6-3 and registered just two shots on goal following the Westmont goal and found difficultly maintaining possession.
The Warriors (16-0-3) finished the match with a 10-8 advantage in shots despite surrendering four corner kicks and generating just one of their own.
Southeastern concluded its season with a 14-4-2 overall record.
