Football Powers Past Florida Memorial

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.—Nearly 500 yards of offense and a stingy effort on defense helped Southeastern snap a three-game losing streak with a 41-13 win at Florida Memorial Saturday night.

The ground game took off with the Fire rushing 48 times for 329 yards. Quarterback Kaylan Wiggins got the scoring started with a 53-yard touchdown run on the first play of SEU's second drive at the 11:51 mark to go up 7-0. Ashton Garner connected on a 49-yard field goal at the 9:06 mark of the second to make it 10-0.

"We found some consistency we tried to be more balanced running the football which helped our offensive line and our pass protection," said coach Adam Waugh. "Even with two starters out up front we had some young guys step up and do a good job."

Bryan Bell's first of two touchdowns on the day was from two yards out capped off a 12-pay, 49-yard touchdown drive that left all but 10 seconds left in the half to make it 17-0 at the break.

Wiggins had a seven-yard touchdown run with 9:40 left in the third quarter to put the Fire up 24-0 and Garner's second field goal of the game at the 2:09 mark of the quarter from 37 yards out made it 27-0.

Bell added a two-yard run for a touchdown at the 6:51 mark of the fourth quarter to stop a 13-point run by the Lions and Deshawn Brown raced in from 35 yards out with 4:49 left to put the game on ice. Bell finished with 110 yards on 19 carries and Wiggins added 106 yards rushing on 16 carries.

Wiggins was 19-of-34 passing for 185 yards hitting nine different receivers.

The Defense limited Florida Memorial to just 272 yards of total offense.

"Our defense came out ready to play and tackled well," said Waugh, "We gave up some cheap ones there at the end that were more about penalties, which was disappointing."

The Fire will be back on the road next Saturday against Warner at 7 p.m.
