BRUNSWICK, Ga. - The Southeastern volleyball team improved their win streak to three after a 3-1 victory over the Coastal Georgia Mariners. The Fire improved to 11-12 on the season and 7-5 in the Sun Conference.
In the first set, the Fire started out slow and couldn't find their rhythm until late in the set and ultimately cost them the first set losing 25-20.
Set two was the complete opposite where the Fire found their spark and started out by going on a 8-2 run. The Fire led by as many as nine late in the set and took a 25-19 victory to even the score.
In the third set, SEU continued to use their momentum and maintained the lead the entire set leading by as much as ten with a score of 21-11. The Fire proceeded to take the third set 25-16.
The final set, Southeastern jumped out in front 8-2 and looked to keep the theme going of remaining in the lead. However, the Mariners caught momentum and went on a 7-1 run to tie the set 9-9. Both teams traded leads back and forth all the way down to the wire. With the set tied at 25-25, neither team could gain the lead to take the set until the Fire scored twice in a row from a kill from Kennedy Jones and an attack error from the Mariners. SEU took the final set 31-29.
Emilia Harding had a game-high 17 kills with a .357 hitting percentage and Holly Kaczmarek led all with 17 digs. Aly Postlethwaite led the team in assists with 26.
Southeastern will return to action Wednesday, November 2nd at home in the Furnace at 7 p.m. Eastern.
