Two SUN Contests this Week for Volleyball

LAKELAND, Fla- A two-contest week for the 8-12 (4-5 SUN) Southeastern University volleyball team will consist of a home contest on Wednesday against Ave Maria at 7 p.m. and a Saturday contest against Florida Memorial in Miami Gardens at 2 p.m.
 
Through 20 contests, Southeastern holds a hitting percentage of .175 and average nearly 12 kills per set. Grace Petty sit at the top of the Fire lineup in kills with 175 for an average of 2.57 per set while also recording the team's second best 243 digs (3.57 per set). Holly Kaczmarek has been instrumental to the Fire defense as she currently sits at second in the Sun Conference in digs per set with 5.13, totaling 277 digs. At the net, Baylee Warneke and Chapel Cunningham have combined for 72 blocks with Warneke registering 37 and Cunningham being a part of 35.
 
The Gyrenes of Ave Maria currently sit one game out of a tie for first place in the Sun Conference with a 14-3 overall record and 6-1 SUN record. Defense has been the strong point of the Gyrenes thus far with an average of 2.4 blocks per set and 17 digs per set. Abigail Costlow has been a force at the net as she leads the Sun Conference in blocks with 75 and an average of 1.2 per set. Victoria Schein currently averages nearly five digs a set with 296 total. Offensively, the Gyrenes have accumulated a .208 hitting percentage with 12.1 kills per set. Cabriella Bouterse's 170 kills is enough to lead the Gyrene offense while Abigail Cotlow's .379 hitting percentage leads the Sun Conference.
 
This will be second meeting this season between these two teams as the Fire look for redemption from their 3-0 loss to the Gyrenes on September 21^st.
 
The Lions have strung together a 9-5 and 5-4 SUN record and currently average 11.4 kills per contest with a .198 hitting percentage. Caroline Souza has been the offensive spark for the Lions as she currently sits at the top of the Sun Conference in both kills per set (4.08) and points per set (4.79). Souza also leads the defense with 134 digs.
 
The Fire took the first meeting between these two teams earlier this season by a score of 3-1.
