LAKELAND, Fla.- With two Sun Conference matches this week, the No. 9 ranked Southeastern University women's soccer team will face off against both Ave Maria and the top team in the NAIA, Keiser University, with the contest against the Gyrenes taking place on the road on Thursday at 1 p.m. and the NAIA Top 10 showdown taking place at home on Saturday at 3 p.m.
Southeastern has strung together a 8-1-2 record and 2-0-1 SUN record and are coming off a tie of the Webber Warriors. Collectively, the Fire have found the back of the net 36 times for an average of 3.3 goals per contest and 17 shots per game.
Naira Lopez has been a majority of the Fire offense with nine goals and two assists while
Holly Eddins has posted a .750 save percentage in goal with 33 saves and a 7-1-2 record.
The Fire will look for redemption against the Gyrenes after last year's contest resulted in an upset with the Gyrenes taking their first win in program history over the Fire by a score of 2-0 on the Fire's home pitch.
Holding a 4-3-4 record (1-1-1 SUN), the Gyrenes are coming off of a week that saw a 1-1 tie against the receiving votes St. Thomas University and 6-1 victory over Florida Memorial. The team currently outscores opponents 17-7 with 1.6 goals and 16.4 shots per game. Liz Wolf and Madelyn Krause have led the offense with Wolf posting four goals and one assist and Krause collecting three goals and two assists. Maddie Samuleson has been a major key to the Gyrenes success thus far, posting a .908 save percentage in goal after allowing just six goals and 59 saves.
The Seahawks have continued their dominance in the NAIA and Sun Conference as they have accumulated a 12-0-1 overall record with the tie coming against No. 3 William Carey by a score of 2-2. Outscoring their competitors 57-5, the Seahawks average over four goals per contest off of 24.8 shots per game and a .533 shot on goal percentage. After a week with six assists, Maja Henriksson now leads the NAIA in assists with 13 while Kyoka Koshijima has recorded 26 points with eight goals and 10 assists. The top goal-scorer has been Romana Kannady who has found the back of the net 10 times in 12 starts while also assisting on five. In goal, Grace McClellan holds an 11-0-1 record, allowing just five goals in 35 shots faced.
