LOUISVILLE, Ky.—Southeastern went 1-1 during the final day of competition at the Kentucky Expo Center to claim seventh place at the NWCA Multi-Division National Dual Championships.
The Fire have placed all three times they have competed at Mat Mayhem.
SEU eked out a 20-19 win in the seventh-place match against No. 10 Marian after a 30-12 loss to No. 3 Indiana Tech to move their overall dual record to 8-2 on the year.
The Fire trailed 9-3 in the seventh-place match, but
Maxwell Kauffman picked up a major decision to start a string of four straight matches won by SEU and
Trace Braun came up with a first period technical fall at 157 to put Southeastern in control, 12-9.
Stephen Kelle also came away with a tech, which proved vital as the Knights won the last three matches.
In the consolation semis,
Isaac Crowell got the Fire started with a major, but the Titans won the next four matches, getting a pin and a major to build a 14-4 lead at the halfway point of the dual. Braun and Kelle recorded back-to-back majors to get within two, but Indiana Tech won by tech at 184 and got a decision at 197 to lock up the match.
Mat Mayhem also plays host to the NUWAY College Open where the Fire had
Michael Bush, Kauffman, and Dominic Lomazzo reached the quarterfinals. Lomazzo placed third at 165, recording a pin of Pate Eastin of Campbellsville in just 46 seconds.
Southeastern returns to action on January 15
th when it hosts the Fire Duals, welcoming St. Thomas, Keiser, Hastings, and Cumberland to The Furnace.
